Update: Wreck Sends 7, Including 8-year-old, to Hospital

UPDATE 5/6/14 -- On Monday at approximately 4:02 p.m., Amarillo Police were sent to 29th and S Grand on a serious motor vehicle collision. 

Responding officers found that an 8 year old girl had been ejected during the crash.  She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver and three additional juveniles were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 
 Investigators have since learned that their condition has improved.

The Saturn had been westbound on 29th when it pulled out in front of a northbound 2005 Nissan 4-door driven by a 16-year-old. 

The driver of the Nissan was also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Two juvenile passengers from the Nissan were uninjured. 

Speed is a possible factor in this collision.  The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo 

UPDATE 5/5/14 -- Police say seven people have been taken taken to the hospital after a major wreck.

One of them is an eight-year-old child in critical condition.

It happened about four this afternoon at 29th and South Grand.

Two vehicles were involved.

Police tell us one the vehicles failed to yield.

Parts of south Grand were closed in both directions for a while.

UPDATE -- Seven people were injured in the wreck. 

AMARILLO -- APD is currently working a major traffic accident near 29th and S. Grand.

Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes to avoid this area.

There are reported injuries and people have been transported to local hospitals, but emergency crews will likely remain on the scene for the next hour or so.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
