Update: Suspect Identified During Altercation with Sheriff

UPDATE -- Police release more information in the Claude officer involved shooting. 

The suspect, 52-year-old Mitch Thompson, will have an autopsy scheduled Wednesday morning in Lubbock.  

The Special Crimes Unit continues to investigate this shooting and asks anyone with information about this incident to call 378-9468.

CLAUDE -- One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting.

According to Lt. Erick Bohannon, Special Crimes Unit, the Armstrong county sheriff and a deputy were called out to a disturbance at a convenince store in Claude on Sunday.  The suspect was arrested and taken to the Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office.

During booking, the suspect allegedly attacked the sheriff and overpowered him.  That's when a deputy stepped in to stop it.

When the deputy could not stop the attack, investigators say he shot the suspect.

The suspect and sheriff were both transported to a local hospital where the suspect died.
