PAMPA -- The TxDOT Amarillo District, along with Safe Kids Panhandle and the City of Pampa Fire Department, is offering parents and child care providers an opportunity to make sure the child safety seats they are using are effective and safe for kids to ride in.

The free inspection and check-up will be  May 1, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pampa Fire Department headquarters, located at 203 West Foster Avenue in Pampa, TX.

Inspectors will check to see if a car seat is properly installed or if it moves when stopping or turning, or if its the right size for the child.  Those who get their child safety seats checked will also learn tips on choosing the proper safety seat for a child, how to properly secure the seat in a vehicle and properly secure the child in the seat, learn about the dangers of airbags, and when is the proper time for a child to graduate to a booster seat.
