Two Men Placed on Probation for Sexual Assault of a Child

AMARILLO -- Two men were placed on eight years of probation for second degree felony offense of sexual assault of a child.

Marlon Austere Cortez, 21-year-old from Childress, and Ricardo Santiago-Velasco, 22-year-old from Amarillo, pleaded guilty and were placed on deferred adjudication for the offense.

Cortez was arrested in Childress County for the offense that took place October 17, 2013.

Cortez's plea agreement requires him to pay a $2,000 fine to Childress County, $390.50 in court costs, successfully complete 300 hours of community service, and register as a sex offender. If Cortez violates probation, he could face up to 20 years in the Institutional Division of the TDCJ.

Santiago-Velasco was arrested in Wheeler County for the offense that took place August 11, 2013 in Donley County.  

Santiago-Velasco plea agreement requires him to pay a $4,000 fine to Donley County, $614 in court costs, successfully complete 300 hours of community service, and register as a sex offender. If Santiago-Velasco violates probation, he could face up to 20 years in the Institutional Division of the TDCJ.
