A professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has received a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to the tune of close to $3 million.

The grant is to aid in Doctor Afzal Siddiqui's research of the Schistosomiasis vaccine.

The vaccine is used to treat existing infections, and prevent future ones.

Doctor Siddiqui says it has the impact to change the lives of one billion people.
