Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Former Crime Stoppers Fugitive of the Week

AMARILLO -- Amarillo Police pulled over Thiraphong "Austin" Vongphrachanh near NE9th and Heather shortly after 10 pm on August 27. Vongphrachanh initially pulled over for officers, however as an officer made his approach to contact Vongphrachanh, he drove off evading police contact. 

Police pursued after Vongphrachanh. Vongphrachanh lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a chain-link fence in the 6600 block of NE 24th Ave where the officers then arrested him. 

In addition to his warrants for Evading Arrest W/ Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of Vehicle & Driving While Intoxicated, Vongprachanh was also charged with on-view violations of: Possession of a Controlled Substance over 4 grams, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Evading in a Motor Vehicle. 

Vongphrachanh was later transported and booked at Potter County jail for his warrants and on-view charges.
