"Welcome to Sweden" Arrives
By Mark Barger
(NBC) Art imitates life in NBC's new romantic comedy "Welcome to Sweden".
It's about a guy who follows his heart overseas and then has major adjustments to make once he gets there, all based on the real-life experiences of star Greg Poehler.
The former patent attorney followed his soon-to-be-wife to her homeland eight years ago, becoming an instant fish-out-of-water.
"There's just something inherently funny about walking around in a strange country, where almost
every day there's something hilarious that happens," he says.
Even though Poehler had no real TV background, he sold his sister Amy on the series idea. She appears as a guest star and serves as executive producer.
"Welcome to Sweden" premiers Thursday night on NBC.
