Atlanta, Georgia -
In just a few weeks, thousands of college kids will be packing their bags and heading off to their dorms but many now have a surprising new way to make the transition a bit easier, or at least, less expensive.
There has been so much said about the sky-high cost of college tuition these days but what about all the other costs? Moving into a dorm means buying what you need to make your new room feel like home.
Now some college kids are taking a cue from engaged couples and expectant moms. Gift registries are becoming popular for young people making the transition from home to a dorm.
Big box retailers have set up a way for students to register for all their basic needs. Target and the container store are just two of the companies helping kids sign up for shower caddies, bedding supplies and other cool dorm room accouterments and apparently the trend is catching on.
According to the container store, registries for college-bound students outpaced wedding registries last year for the first time ever. Accounting for 57-percent of all registries created at the company.
