Music Without Instruments
(WFLA) There's a saying some musicians know well: "play the music, not the instrument." Now a quintet at the University of South Florida is taking that to a new level.
Go to a concert for Touch, and the sound coming from inside the theater might sound like a mixture between a classic rock band and a classical piano concert, but there's not a single instrument on stage.
The quintet, made up of two USF professors and three Ph.D. students, is using only iPads to produce the music.
"New technologies that we can use musically aren't going to go away," said Clint Randles, Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of South Florida, and one of the founding members of the group. "We'll add to the repertoire."
