Driving Safely in School Zones

- AMARILLO -- And as the new school year approaches, TxDOT wants to remind drivers to be extra cautious in school zones.

TxDOT reports more than 600 crashes happened in Texas school zones last year.

TxDOT says there are some simple ways to ensure safety and avoid costly fines.

Cell phones are banned in school zones, so be on the lookout for posted signs.

Traffic fines usually double in school zones,so remember to follow the speed limit.

Be sure to drop off and pick up your kids in the designated areas, instead of the middle of the street.

And always keep an eye out for children crossing the road.
