Clinical Study Could Change Pacemakers

-

A new clinical trial may set the bar for pacemakers. The Cardiology Center of Amarillo has teamed up with PharmaTex Research to make pacemakers safer during MRI's.

In the past, pacemakers were not allowed in MRI's because of the magnetic field and high energy radio frequency field. Dr. Lane Cox, Certified Cardiac Device Specialist, says they put the device in and wait several weeks then do a non-diagnostic MRI on the patient.

Dr. Cox says, so far the results look good. The use of the new pacemakers depends on FDA approval, approval from insurance companies and finances.
