GROOM – On Wednesday afternoon, DPS attempted to stop a gray Dodge pickup that was westbound on I-40 near Groom. The pickup was reported stolen from McLean.

DPS says 33-year-old William Ray Guthrie refused to stop, evading law enforcement.

Guthrie swerved to miss spike strips twice, once nearly hitting a trooper.

DPS then resorted to shooting shotgun rounds into the tires of the pickup, which stopped after hitting a fence.

Guthrie ran a short distance before being apprehended.

Guthrie was placed under arrest for attempted capital murder (a first degree felony), unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (a state jail felony), and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle (a state jail felony), and booked into the Carson County Jail.
