The inspiration for the TRi to Make a Difference Sprint Triathlon came about in May of 2005 with the birth of Thomas “Bo” Boyce Lynch who was born with a rare seizure disorder. Thomas spent the first two months of his life in the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) supported Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo. Inspired by the compassion of CMN and the amazing impact CMN was able to make in their lives, Barry and Judy Lynch and their friends, through a letter writing campaign, sought sponsorships to participate in a charity triathlon in McKinney, Texas, raising just over $23,000 for CMN of Amarillo. Motivated by their efforts, local CMN board members and numerous community volunteers have worked tirelessly to provide Amarillo and the Panhandle community with a similar event: The Lake Tanglewood – TRI to Make a Difference Sprint Triathlon, which to date has raised over $450,000 for Children’s Miracle Network. Bringing a triathlon home to Lake Tanglewood allowed the community, as well as local and regional businesses, to participate in this faith inspiring event.
The 8th annual TRi will take place Saturday, September 14th at Lake Tanglewood and consists of a 400 meter swim, 10 mile bike and 5K run. Approximately 250 racers and well over 1,000 spectators are expected at the event. Lake Tanglewood gates open to spectators at 9:00am, the race begins at 10 a.m. and a Post-Race Party/Awards Ceremony will follow at 11:45 a.m. Further race information can be found at www.tritomakeadfifference.org.
