Texas Students Improve Some STAAR Test Results

- Texas students made strong improvements in their end of course STAAR tests in Biology and Algebra, improving scores on average of 6% across the state.

Texas students are required to pass five end of course exams to receive a diploma. In addition to Algebra and Biology, they are also tested in English and U.S. History.

In Biology, 93% of students passed compared to 87% the previous school year. In Algebra I 86% passed compared to 82% the previous year.

However students did not perform so well in English I and II, with a 72% passing rate in English I and 73% in English II.

Students who did not pass the end of course exams have another chance to retake tests in July.
