Today is designated as Texas Daca Day, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Day.
The Equal Justice Center hosted a free DACA information session at Caprock High School.
They also provided free eligibility screenings to youth, wanting to know if they qualify.
DACA provides young people living in the United States opportunities to participate more fully in our society and contribute to the economy.
Staff Attorney at the Equal Justice Center Caitlin Boehne says, "a group of 9 non profit organizations of which i'm a member, are having events all over the state to try to bring out all the undocumented youth who are eligible for this program who haven't yet applied. And we think that there are probably quite a few people here in Amarillo who are eligible and haven't had the chance to apply yet."
For those who qualify, DACA offers employment authorization, a social security number, the ability to apply for a drivers license and protection from removal.
