Suspect Caught in First Plains Federal Credit Union Robbery

UPDATE  2/7/14 --APD Detectives identified as James Aaron Sims, 23, as a suspect in the credit union robbery. 

Sims had been identified as a suspect in a burglary that occurred on February 2nd where 4 vehicles were stolen. In the burglary a white 2008 Ford F150 was stolen and this truck is believed to be the one used as a getaway vehicle in the robbery. A felony theft warrant had been issued in regards to the burglary and theft of the motor vehicle. 

Today APD COPPS officers observed Mr. Sims walking in the 200 block of NW 10th and he was taken into custody. Sims was later transported and booked into Potter County Correction Center on a charge of Burglary of a Building, Felony Theft, and Aggravated Robbery (for the Credit Union robbery) plus a local JP capias warrant for Possession of Marijuana.

A second subject has been identified in connection to the robbery as well as the burglary but he is not being identified at his time. Additional arrests and charges are expected.
 
AMARILLO 2/3/14 --  FBI officials are investigating a bank robbery in downtown Amarillo.

It happened this afternoon at the First Plains Federal Credit Union at 8th and Madison.
 
Officials say a man walked into the bank and made a hand motion that implied he had a gun and demanded money.   

The suspect then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officials say the man got into a white, Ford F-150 in the parking lot.

They say another person was waiting in the truck.
