Supreme Court Rules In Favor of Prayer

A divided supreme court rules in favor of prayer before town meetings.

Two residents of "Greece, New York" sued the town, saying the fact that most of the prayers were Christian violated the separation of church and state.

The court was divided along ideological lines, and Justice Anthony Kennedy provided the swing vote.

He wrote the town's prayers are consistent with a 1983 ruling allowing prayers before legislative sessions citing their historical nature.

And, he said the prayers do not have to be non-sectarian.
