The Discovery Center's Barking Dog

Do you have what it takes to become the next American Idol? American Idol will be at the Discovery Center on July 17th! The DHDC will host the American Idol Regional auditions in Amarillo on July 17th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will offer free admission for those auditioning and their official guardian. $2 admission for everyone else that day -- members of course are always free. Auditions will be held in the DHDC parking lot. Food and drink vendors will also be set up outside. Please visit for audition information. 

July 19th is Chess Day!
Join DHDC for an open, come-and-go chess tournament from  9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The event is for all ages. Fierce competitors will play this strategy-based game in some unique ways: Speed Chess, Bug House Chess and a blindfold game demo. Learn HOW to play! Or learn how to improve your game. Free for DHDC members, regular admission for non-members.

Moth Talk at the DHDC!
In conjunction with National Moth Week, the DHDC will host Moth Talk July 22nd at 7 p.m. The talk will feature guest lecturer, Chris Grinter, entomologist at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The evening will be partnered with the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center. After the lecture by Mr. Grinter, guests will then explore the Wildcat Bluff as they become citizen scientists and search for moths to admire and record with their cameras! The talk is free for members of the Don Harrington Discovery Center and/or Wildcat Bluff Nature Center. The lecture fee is $ 5.00 for non-members. The coinciding mothing event (at Wildcat Bluff Nature Reserve) is free to the public.
