Pharmacist Doug: Grass-Fed Dairy

From Pharmacist Doug:

I am not a dairy farmer, so, I do not want to pose as an expert farmer, but I am an expert consumer.

The most important nutrient that has a higher concentration in grass fed milk is CLA. (Conjugated Linoleic Acid.) CLA is a type of fat associated with a wide variety of health benefits, including immune and inflammatory system support, improved bone mass, improved blood sugar regulation, reduced body fat, reduced risk of heart attack, and maintenance of lean body mass.

Grass fed cow milk has higher concentrations of beta-carotene (one component of the vitamin A complex) and E. You want to make sure the farm is 100% pasture or grass feeding their cattle. Some give grain for a portion of the feeding. And, I really like it when we can consume local milk.

Drug Emporium has Pereira Pastures Creamery, which is located in Abernathy, TX just about an hour and half south of Amarillo.
