Cookoff: It's IBCA-sanctioned and over 100 cook teams participating. The Homer's Grand Champion secures a spot in the World Food Championships, in November in downtown Las Vegas.
History: Homer's Backyard Ball evolved from a casual get-together in Travis Homers back yard in 1996. It has grown every year, and now receives regional and national attention. It is the 18th year, and it is being advertised in four states.
Why: Homer's Backyard Ball is a production of the Homer's Backyard Ball Foundation, a registered 501-c-(3) nonprofit organization, that donates substantial amounts of money to children's charities throughout the area. Beneficiaries include the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Khiva Shrine of Amarillo, Snack Pak for Kids, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and others.

Event is BYOB. Do not bring pets or glass containers of any kind. Free fajita plate starting at 1 p.m., until 3 p.m. or they run out of food. So come early!
