Beware of the Bug

- This is the most dangerous time of the year for dogs and their owners.  Both the Centers for Disease Control and Companion Animal Parasite Council are predicting this to be one of the worst years ever for ticks and other parasites.   Pet Health Network is launching a new campaign, Beware the Bug, to educate pet owners and their families about the dangers of parasites and parasitic disease, and the importance of screening for dogs. Our pets can be carriers of dozens of diseases, some of which can jump from animal to human.

CAPC has been tracking the expansion of parasites across the country and we can expect their 2014 forecast to show a continued threat. Many pet owners don't understand the consequences of not protecting their pets and families against parasites that include not just fleas and ticks, but also intestinal parasites such as whipworms, roundworms and tapeworms. Dogs are especially prone to infection from fleas, ticks, mites and intestinal parasites which can spread quickly.
