Amarillo Zoo Honors a Profession of Dedication During National Zoo Keeper Week
In recognition of the dedication of zoo keepers, the Amarillo Zoo is joining the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) and zoos around the nation in celebrating National Zoo Keeper Week (July 20-26, 2014). Created by AAZK, National Zoo Keeper Week is celebrated each year beginning on the third Sunday in July. During the week, zoos nationwide honor approximately 7,000 animal care professionals in the United States and the work they do in animal care, conservation and education.
During the week, zoo staff will be highlighting some of the work performed by professional zoo keepers. Visitors are invited to come out and meet our zoo staff and learn more about the profession of zoo keeping. Each day there will be a different activity including keeper chats, animal enrichment activities, displays on animal diets, handling equipment and more. Check at the Zoos admission booth when you arrive to see the times and locations of that days activity.
To show your support for the Zoo and the Keepers you can purchase a special gift for one of your favorite Zoo animals at the Amazon.com wish list.
Just like our human friends, animals can be tricky to buy for. So they've made it simple to find just the right gift for your favorite animal at the Amarillo Zoo. Now you can purchase a gift for the animals from our Amazon.com wish list, and the item will be shipped directly to the zoo! Gifts are available for a wide variety of animals, from bobcats to kangaroos, to lions or lemurs.
