Amarillo Symphony Concludes its 89th Season This Weekend

- The Amarillo Symphony's season finale, Lady Sings the Blues, on April 25th and 26th at the Performing Arts Center in Amarillo will feature legendary music by George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Duke Ellington.

Lady Sings the Blues will offer a substantial, yet lighter classical music program. Attendees will hear favorites like Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Lullaby for Strings, plus the overture from Bernstein’s Wonderful Town and Ellington’s beloved Ellington Medley among others.

Guest conductor, Joseph Young, will lead the orchestra for this season finale performance. Mr. Young is increasingly regarded as one of America’s rising young conductors and was recently appointed as the new assistant conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the music director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.

"We're excited to conclude our 89th season with a fun, jazzy concert like Lady Sings the Blues," said Susan White, executive director of the Amarillo Symphony. "The Amarillo Symphony is grateful for the generous support of our patrons this season and we look forward to returning next season in celebration of our 90th anniversary."

Lady Sings the Blues will also feature guest soprano Anna Bergman and guest pianist Kevin Cole. Ms. Bergman has performed internationally in virtually every arena and highlights include performing as a soloist at the White House and for HM Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, while Mr. Cole is regarded as the best Gershwin pianist in America today. Mr. Cole is an award-winning musical director, composer, arranger, vocalist and archivist who delights audiences with a repertoire that includes the best of 20th century American music.
