PLAINVIEW -- A Lubbock protest group has expanded its reach and now has, as of last Friday, a chapter in Plainview. WASP or Warriors Against Synthetic Pot started in Lubbock after cofounder Gary Leatherwood’s son had a near-death experience with synthetic cannabinoids.

“About 40 protesters spent an hour Friday night outside Just Smokes,” the Plainview Daily Herald reported. The Plainview Police Chief and at least on member of the City Council made appearances at the protest, according to the Herald.

Synthetic marijuana is not a violation of city ordinances in Plainview. Crystal Davenport and her fellow protesters said they hope to change that.

Just as WASP members in Lubbock have made it their practice to protest in front of smoke shops every Friday to discourage the sale of synthetic marijuna, so too is the plan for WASP in Plainview.
