Blimps on the Border

- (KVEO) A new blimp-like aerostat system is aiding U.S. Border Patrol agents working to seize narcotics and halt illegal crossing along the border near Roma, Texas.

It is the fifth unit of its kind along the border and also the largest one so far.

It uses cameras that operate 24 hours a day and offer 360 degree surveillance capability.

"The video here that's taken by the aerostat is sent to a control room where agents are manned 24 hours a day, and they can send the agents who are out here in the field to that area to respond rapidly," explains Border Patrol Operations Officer Joe Gutierrez Jr.
