UPDATE: Special Crimes Unit Makes Arrest in Connection to Wednesday Morning Homicide

AMARILLO - UPDATE 9:26 p.m.:

The Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit now has a suspect in custody who is connected to Wednesday morning's shooting.

Just after six, police arrested Matthew Wilson, 30. He's being charged with murder stemming from the shooting of Brandon Washington, 26, early this morning in the 800 block of North Tyler. 

The Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit secured a warrant on a charge of murder stemming from the shooting in N. Amarillo early this morning. 

Wilson was transported to and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

UPDATE: 

Special Crimes Unit has released the Homicide victim's name. He is 26-year-old Brandon Lamar Washington.

The Special Crimes Unit is working on a homicide investigation.

Police say they were sent to Amarillo Boulevard West and North Polk on reports of shots fired around one this morning.

Police say there was a person down in the area.

Police say the shooting happened in the 800 block of North Tyler and the victim collapsed in a convenience store parking lot at Amarillo Boulevard and Polk. 

The victim was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

The Special Crimes Unit says the cause of death is gunshot wounds.

An autopsy has been ordered.

The victim's name has not been released at this time and no arrests have been made.
