SOTX Teams Up With United Supermarkets

AMARILLO - Swimming, cycling, basketball, the list goes on of the sports Special Olympics Texas athletes compete in throughout the year.

SOTX teamed up with United and Market Street Supermarkets to hold a fundraiser. All stores throughout the Panhandle participated.

The UCrew volunteer team were inside taking donations. At some locations, donations were taken in the parking lot and on some street intersections collecting change.

"Without the community helping us out, Special Olympics wouldn't be able to run. We have here in the city of Amarillo a little over 1100 athletes that participate in Special Olympics and we have several teams that go out to world and the national events. So, it's crucial for us to be able to fundraise to be able to get these athletes out," Annette Castellano, SOTX Regional Director said.

The Knights of Columbus were also in the parking lot selling hamburgers and bratwursts. Those proceeds also went to SOTX.
