Salvation Army "Stuff The Bus" Shoe and Sock Drive

The drive is to provide shoes and socks for children in need.

AMARILLO - If you went shopping at Walmart on Saturday, you might have noticed some friendly faces with large buckets filled with socks.

The Salvation Army of Amarillo held their "Stuff The Bus" shoe and sock drive. The drive is to provide shoes and socks for children in need.

Stephanie Pena, Salvation Army PR and Donor Development Director said, "Especially with the economy, it's so difficult for single moms even single dads. We will see single moms, single dads in our shelters at times, it's really difficult to be able to decide whether or not to pay for a utility or pay for rent. On top of that to add having to purchase school supplies, brand new clothes, and also shoes and socks."

The Salvation Army partnered with Wild 104.3 and Blazin 105.1.

Karaoke Joe, Blazin 105.1 Radio Personality said, "Something as little as a brand new pair of socks means the world to them, so we're just out here trying to help the community and do a good cause with the Salvation Army."

If you missed the drive this week, don't worry. The Salvation Army is having two more "Stuff The Bus" days:
  • Saturday, July 22 at Walmart on Grand St. from 11 A.M. - 3 P.M.
  • Saturday, July 29 at Walmart on Georgia St. from 11 A.M. - 3 P.M.

The goal this year is to raise $10,000 to be able to provide 400 kids with shoes and socks.
