Random Act of Kindness for Homeless in Ellwood Park

AMARILLO - Saturday was a record-setting day in Amarillo.

Corey Simma, our meteorologist says, "Over the last couple of days we have seen record breaking low temperatures pretty much across the entire Texas Panhandle. We're talking single digits and even sub-zero air temperatures."

The lower temperature combined with the wind chill created not just uncomfortable conditions for Amarillo's homeless population, but unlivable.

"When it gets that low, wind chill temperatures were around -10 to -20 and whenever we drop those air temperatures so low -- we're talking single digits -- it takes less wind to get a lower wind chill factor."
says Simma.

Because of this, we're seeing an effort to help out in unusual way.

Winter gear is being left on trees in Ellwood Park with a note reading, "I'm not lost! Please take me with you if you are cold. Stay warm. God bless!"

And the act is catching the eyes of many.

Kit Rudd, the found of Yellow City Community Outreach says, "Yesterday, I first saw a picture of it on Facebook. I think it's the most exciting thing to happen in awhile."

Others took their thoughts to social media, you can see their responses and the full story in the video above.
