Amarillo, Texas -
AMARILLO -- Polk Street United Methodist Church is planning a relief shipment to assist residents in Arkansas affected by last weekends devastating tornadoes, and is seeking the communitys help in gathering supplies.
Burt Palmer, senior pastor at Polk Street, has connected with a fellow United Methodist pastor at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Ark. who says his congregation will distribute the supplies Amarillo delivers.
"I always tell people to not wait for others to do what you can," Palmer said. "I believe we can do this, now. It's just simply people helping people. I've learned that Panhandle people get that concept."
Polk Street members will gather at the church, 1401 S. Polk St., from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday to receive supplies from the community. Church members will leave Amarillo on Sunday and deliver the supplies in Arkansas on Monday.
The supplies the church is asking for are:
- Diapers of all sizes
- Gift cards
