TUCUMCARI -- A Tucumcari man will spend the next 13 years in prison after making a plea deal in an attempted murder trial.

William Archuleta was sentenced earlier this week.

Archuleta was initially charged with 1st degree attempted murder, aggravated battery, child endangerment, and tampering with evidence.

He was charged after shooting 30-year-old Brian Cassidy in the leg at a party in August 2012.

But officials say because he was already in prison at the time of the trial on a separate offense. He agreed to a plea deal.
