Payless is launching an international children's shoe-giving program called Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids, and it's coming to Amarillo.

Friday, May 23 at 1 p.m. a group of children from the Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo will be shopping for and selecting their own pair of free new shoes.

For many kids accustomed to used and hand-me-down shoes, this will be their first pair of new shoes.

In 2008, Payless launched Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids in the US, giving away $1 million worth of free shoes.

In 2009, Payless extended the program to reach families in need in Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries.
