The Department of Energy (DOE) created the National Science Bowl in 1991 to encourage students to excel in mathematics and science and to pursue careers in these fields.
Each year, more than 100 Pantex volunteers prepare the academic competition for hundreds of students who participate in the event. This year will mark Pantex’s 26th year as a Regional sponsor of the Science Bowls, where 30 teams from across the Texas Panhandle compete for the chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C., representing our area at the National Science Bowl.
Since many people have never seen first-hand the competition at Science Bowl, we thought it would be a fun and interesting experiment to have one of our middle school teams challenge a local law firm to a mock Science Bowl competition.
Ascension Academy students will face off against attorneys from the law firm of Burdett, Morgan, Williamson & Boykin. The media is invited to attend, as a precursor to the Science Bowls next month.
