Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum Receives Top Ranking

The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum has been awarded one of the 2014 TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence.

The award honors hospitality excellence and is given to establishments that consistantly receive outstanding traveler reviews.

Located on the campus of West Texas A&M University, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is the largest history museum in Texas, with more than 285,000 square feet-and over two million artifacts.

Dave and Jean Furrow left their Florida home three weeks ago to travel the country and found themselves a history of the High Plains while in Canyon. "Actually when we went to the State Park, they recommended this as a tourist stop, and then we were shopping in town and they recommended it so we came by today," Jean Furrow said.

Visitors like the Furrows earned the museum a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor this spring, ranking the museum among popular attractions around the world.

According to Stephanie Price, the museum's Communication Manager, PPHM is the largest history museum in the state of Texas.

Between 60,0000 and 70,000 people visit each year.

"We're actually ranked number one in Canyon as one of the best attractions and then we have a five start rating on TripAdvisor," Price said of the museum's positive reviews on the site.

For the Furrows, the museum was a perfect picture of West Texas.

"It's a great destination. A great place to stop by and visit," Dave Furrow said.

"A lot of history. Lots of history," Jean Furrow said.

Lots of High Plains history that keeps bringing tourists in.
