MULESHOE - Officials capture a Roosevelt County inmate in Muleshoe after he escapes.

32-year-old Senovio Mendoza Junior and another inmate were doing grounds keeping at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds.

While working, Mendoza hit the county employee that was watching them, with a pickaxe.

Police say he then tied the employee’s hands and feet together, stole their keys and wallet, and fled the scene.

Mendoza then traveled on State Road 202 toward Muleshoe.

Officials arrested Mendoza east of Muleshoe, in Sudan.

He is being held in Texas on criminal charges.
