Octoeber 3rd, Thursday Afternoon Forecast

- Hello and good Thursday morning everyone; the heat is with us again today. The wind will also kick in with gusts between 30 and 35 mph out of the southwest. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s and low 90s while we dry out here at the surface, lending to elevated fire dangers this afternoon. Avoid outdoor burning if at all possible, especially in eastern New Mexico, the western Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, and southwestern Kansas.

Tonight, we won't have any freezing temperatures, just cold air with lows in the 40s and 50s but the next front does come in during the afternoon. Friday's highs will range from the upper 70s to the lower 80s, and there's a chance for a few thunderstorms around Wellington and Childress late tomorrow night.

Saturday, we start off with near freezing lows so go ahead and plan on bringing in your dogs and your sensitive plants; also cover your pipes if your house is not well insulated. We'll only warm up to the 50s and 60s for the afternoon but then we're back to warmer conditions on Sunday after 11am.

Next week will continue the warming trend and dry conditions.

Enjoy your day!
