Hotel Abuzz with Bees
(KOB) Travelers on Route 66 can easily overlook the De Anza motel as they enter Nob Hill.
It's deserted now, owned by the city, preserved because of its historic nature and waiting to be re-developed.
"De Anza is sort of a sign post for Nob Hill for people coming down Route 66 from the east" said Robert Munro who owns O'Neill's Pub across the street. Munro is also the President of Nob Hill Main Street.
He is not surprised that a different kind of traveler settled into this prime location.
Security guards at the motel recently found at least four honey bee hives.
"It's been protected by security guards for so many years that it must be a nice haven for the bees," he said, "Nobody is in there bugging them."
Gallons of honey are behind the walls. One hive alone has 95,000 bees.
