Grasshopper Invasion!

-
(KOB)  Swarms of uninvited guests have taken over the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Residents say they're being overwhelmed by grasshoppers.

"You would see clouds. I mean there were like literally thousands out there," says Raymond Heath.

A similar invasion last fall was triggered by heavy seasonal rains.  This time, it's just the opposite.

Experts say the drought is driving insects into the city in search of food.

"There's no moisture up in the mountains. There's no moisture out in the desert, and a lot of the plants are drying up and they need food and they need water like everybody else," says Albuquerque exterminator Richard Fagerlund.

Fagerlund says the invasion is temporary; the bugs should be gone in a few weeks.
