AMARILLO -- More resources will be available to the fire department, thanks to a new grant.
Potter County Commissioners approved a $280,000 grant.
That money will go toward the fire/rescue department and be used to buy computers that will give officials better maps and provide better communication to with sheriff's office.
Assistant Fire Chief Pat Fitzpatrick says, "It will improve our firefighter's safety. Because some of the information will come to us from dispatch, we'll relay to that. Things about the scenes themselves. The mapping systen will be better than what we have now for actually finding the addresses. Which can be difficult in the county sometimes."
Right now, the fire department communicates only through radio.
The new computers will be installed in the fire trucks to help with better communication.
