US Could Expand NSA Data Collection

The Wall Street Journal reports lawsuits against the National Security Agency may be having an unintended consequence.

Officials say the government could expand the NSA's controversial collection of American's phone data as a result of the lawsuits seeking to put a stop to it.

Some government lawyers tell the Wall Street Journal court rules on preserving evidence require the NSA to stop destroying older phone records.

That would actually expand the NSA database beyond it's original scope while the lawsuits are active.

But, according to the newspaper, no final decision on preserving the data has been made.
