Washington, District Of Columbia -
(NBC News) The White House has announced the Vice President will spend the next two days meeting with Ukraine's political leaders, as more violence breaks out in eastern Ukraine.
This is what's left today after a deadly Easter shootout in eastern Ukraine...
Shattering last week's truce with Russia. "it's crystal clear that for today, Russia is a threat to the globe, a threat to the European union and a real threat to Ukraine," said Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Keeping eastern Ukraine safe is on Vice President Joe Biden's agenda as he travels to Kiev today.
That - plus ensuring free and fair elections there next month. "There is no military solution to this crisis. It has to be solved through diplomacy," said U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.
But diplomacy is shaky, with the U.S. still considering sanctions against Russia. "I really do believe we should be sanctioning some of the companies in the energy sector," said Senator Bob Corker, (R) Tennessee.
"You cannot work with Russia and try to achieve anything with the language of sanctions," said Russian Ambassador to U.S. Sergey Kislyak
Now there's word the U.S. is sending 150 soldiers to training exercises in nearby Poland and Estonia to reassure our NATO allies the U.S. has their back if Russia tries to take over parts of eastern Ukraine. "If Russia gets away with this I do think that there's a potential that a NATO ally is next," said Senator Chris Murphy (D) Connecticut.
