New Ways Colleges Target Rich Alumni

-
Be careful what you buy because your alma mater may be tracking you.

Some US colleges and universities are using advanced data mining technology to estimate how much alumni can donate.

The schools rely on third-party companies to provide information on a person's income, bonus and stock purchases.

They can also track whether you own a big-ticket item like a yacht or jet.

Brown University and Colorado State University have reportedly used the information to increase donations.

Both schools declined CNN's request for comment.
