Baton Rouge, Louisiana -
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is suing the federal government over the common core academic standards.
In the lawsuit, Jindal accuses the US Education Department of violating federal law and the tenth amendment of the constitution by forcing states to adopt the math and english benchmarks.
The suit seeks a judge to declare the US Department of Education's actions unconstitutional and to ban it from disqualifying states from receiving federal grants based on a refusal to use common core.
Jindal has tried to block the standards being implemented in Louisiana, which adopted them in 2010.
And is he in a court fight over whether he has the right to go against the state legislature on the issue.
