Home Sales Dip
By Steve Handelsman
(NBC News) Sales of new, single family homes last month were far below what they were a year ago and one big reason was our terrible winter.
At a new home development in northeast Washington D.C. called The Hampshires, construction crews are working overtime because the winter was so tough that they fell behind.
This is causing a huge headache this spring for developers like Maggie Parker.
"if you've got freezing temperatures...regardless of snow... you can't pour the concrete... your goods may not arrive in timely fashion," said Parker, a developer for Comstock Homes.
Nationwide, sales of new, single family homes were down more than 13 percent in March compared to a year ago, and these same new homes are beginning to cost more.
