GM Announces New Recalls
By Chris Clackum
(NBC News) General Motors is recalling another 8.4 million vehicles manufactured over the last 17 years for a half dozen safety defects it's found linked to seven crashes and three fatalities.
The announcement on the latest recall came just hours after the automaker told families of people killed or injured in wrecks caused by faulty ignition switches that it's willing to pay millions from a fund GM has hired compensation expert Ken Feinberg to administer.
"They're funding it and they're funding it without any cap with the aggregate amount of money that is going to available," Feinberg told reporters.
GM has linked the faulty switch, which can suddenly shut down power in a moving car, to 13 deaths and 54 accidents and recalled 2.6 million cars because of it.
