Washington, District Of Columbia -
The Labor Department says claims of first-time unemployment benefits rose by 8,000 last week, bringing the total number to 312,000.
The previous week's revised total is up by 4,000 to 304,000.
USA Today reports that this estimate matched analysts' predictions.
However, the four-week average, which experts keep a closer eye on, fell to 310,250 claims.
The Labor Department says that is the lowest since June 2007.
