Ebola in the Spotlight

- (NBC News) The unprecedented outbreak of Ebola was the subject of a hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill.

In emotional testimony a member of the relief organization Samaritan's Purse suggested it wasn't until two Americans became ill that the world paid attention.

"The disease is uncontained and out of control in west Africa. The international response to the disease has been a failure," said Ken Isaacs.

Dr. Tom Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control, said the agency has activated its highest level of emergency operations, assigning at least 250 CDC personnel to focus on Ebola.

Their most pressing assignment is to contain the spread of the deadly virus, which has no effective treatment or cure.
