(NBC News) The two men who may have the most influence in bringing the Ukraine crisis to an end, President Obama and Russian President Vladmir Putin, had their first one-on-one phone call since Russian troops took over parts of the country.
They're talking, but it's not clear they agree on anything when it comes to who should be in charge in Ukraine.
In an hour long conversation with Putin, President Obama made it clear: The United States believes Russia's intervention in Ukraine violates international law.
Earlier on Thursday President Obama made a statement from the White House calling for more international mediation, including monitors on the ground.
