"Broader Sanctions" For Russia
By Danielle Leigh
(NBC News) As the Ukrainian government launches a major offensive to take back the eastern part of the country from separatists, President Obama had new threats for Russia Friday.
Standing in the White House Rose Garden, President Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel echoed threats of sectoral sanctions aimed at Russia's energy, defense and financial industries if the country thwarts the upcoming elections in Ukraine.
"The goal is not to punish Russia. The goal is to give them an incentive to choose a better course," Mr. Obama said.
