Washington, District Of Columbia -
(NBC News) President Obama has strongly defended his controversial decision to trade five former Taliban leaders for prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl.
"I make absolutely no apologies," Mr. Obama said Thursday.
White house officials now say the Taliban warned they'd kill Bergdahl if word leaked of a possible deal; previously the administration had said there was no time to tell Congress, claiming Bergdahl looked so bad in February a deal had to take place quickly.
Bergdahl remains at a U.S. military hospital in Germany, where he's said to be improving and working on regaining control of his emotions
